Harmeet Dhillon: Sikh Lawyer Eyes Top Justice Department Post

California Republican in running to lead Civil Rights Division

After making history with Sikh prayer at GOP convention, Dhillon poised for another groundbreaking move

Harmeet Kaur Dhillon, a prominent Sikh lawyer and Republican Party official, is in the running to join Jeff Sessions' Justice Department as head of the Civil Rights Division. If appointed, Dhillon would be the first Sikh American to hold such a high-ranking position in the federal government.

Dhillon, 50, is a partner at the San Francisco law firm Dhillon Law Group. She is a former vice chairwoman of the California Republican Party and has been a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump.

In 2016, Dhillon made headlines when she became the first person to offer an Ardas, a Sikh prayer, at a Republican National Convention. Her prayer was met with some criticism from conservatives, but it was also widely praised for its message of peace and unity.

Dhillon is a strong advocate for religious freedom and has spoken out against discrimination against Sikhs. She is also a vocal critic of the Obama administration's transgender bathroom directive.

Dhillon's appointment to the Civil Rights Division would be a significant step forward for Sikh Americans. It would also send a strong message that the Trump administration is committed to religious freedom and diversity.
