Ten Years Later, Still Fighting for Safety

Ten years after a deadly tornado tore through Moore, Oklahoma, killing her son, Danni Legg is still fighting for more storm shelters in the community. The May 20, 2013, tornado caused widespread damage and killed 24 people, including Legg's 9-year-old son, Christopher.

Questionable Shelter

In the years since the tornado, Legg has been a vocal advocate for storm shelters. She has spoken to lawmakers, testified before committees, and organized community meetings. She has also helped to raise money to build storm shelters in Moore and other communities.

Legg says that she is frustrated by the lack of progress that has been made on storm shelters. She says that highway overpasses, which are often used as shelters during tornadoes, offer questionable protection.

"They're not safe," Legg said. "They're not designed to withstand a tornado. They're just a place to go if you don't have anywhere else to go."

Legg says that she will continue to fight for more storm shelters in Moore. She says that she hopes that one day, no one else will have to lose a loved one to a tornado.
